Today I am angry and quite disheartened by the fact that I was told to cover my shoulders by another female, who happened to be a member of staff at my sixth form college. At college today I was wearing; a pair of heeled boots, a pair of cigarette trousers, an off the shoulder long-sleeved top and my puffer jacket, which I have worn before on many other different occasions. I was sitting in the common room having my lunch when I was approached by this member of staff to come with her as she wanted to have a word with me. I was then told that I need to make sure that my shoulders are covered when I am at college. Since when has it been an issue to have my shoulders on show? If I was to be wearing a vest top with tiny, thin straps they wouldn’t of had a… View Post
As it is International Women’s Day, the hashtag, #SheInspiresMe has been trending on Twitter today so I thought I would share with you all, my top 5 most inspiring women. All the women that I have written about below inspire me in all different ways, some to be a better person, some to be more confident and some that just surprise me everyday. I am lucky as a girl who has been brought up in an affluent area of the UK as I have received an education and a roof over my head however not everyone is as lucky. Girls all over the world are being forced into things they aren’t comfortable with such as arranged marriages, having children and being a stay at home wife. In some countries women still cant vote or drive a car. Here are the most inspiring women to me.. Maddie Bruce The first lovely Lady that I… View Post
Yet again it’s hunting season and we all know what that means, the return of the Crème Egg. Last year they had a pop up café in SoHo but this year they have travelled all around the country in this years Crème Egg Lodge (a cooler version of a tour bus), which contained a treasure hunt filled with riddles and clues to find the golden egg. We arrived at Waterloo right next to the London Eye at around 12 o’clock. We grabbed a bite to eat at one of the restaurants in the area before joining the queue at the lodge. It turned out getting there half an hour early was a blessing as we were the first to enter the lodge as part of todays adventures. This made a huge change to last year where we queued around an hour and a half just for a toastie… After queuing,… View Post
I’m back with another photography post because yes, I have been on another trip to London with my photography buddies, Hannah and Jess. It’s been a year since I last went up to the Tate, so I was really excited to look around for ideas so I could start building up portfolio. For my AS photography exam I am studying the structure of society, fashion and human body; so I am going to be shooting people in different locations in their everyday life, exploring different fashion and culture. All of the photos here were taken by me and I will now be sharing them on my own photography account on Instagram, @alexrookeblog.
I never thought the day would come where Donald Trump would actually become the president of the United States of America but I guess life is always going to be full of surprises. I understand that he is a business man and of course he is obviously very clever to take up politics as a hobby and a year or so later, become the leader of one of the biggest continents in the world but I don’t think he was the best person for the job. Many people might say “I don’t know why you are so bothered by this” and “why are you concerned, you don’t even live in America”, however this sort of huge change to America could have dramatic affects on the rest of the world. I remember when Obama became president, I was sitting on my parents bed watching the news and seeing how happy everyone in America seemed… View Post
